First 10K!

Ok, so I had been debating on whether or not to run this 10K race in my city for MONTHS. I have always loved running, but have never been that great at endurance, so I was afraid that I would make a fool of myself if I tried it. I had pretty much given up on the idea (out of shear fear of embarrassment) until today. I was at the gym and after doing my usual 35 minutes on the eliptical, I was in a running mood so I hoped on the treadmill. I decided to see if I could do at least three miles which is a little less than half of a 10K race. I didnt really think that I would be able to make it while running the whole time, but to my surprise when I hit 3 miles I felt like I could keep going! I ended up running 4 miles at a pace of about 12 minutes a mile. After that I sort of walked/jogged the other two miles. But I totally impressed myself doing this! I ran 6 miles in about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Im not sure if that is good or bad, but its not too bad when I didnt even think I could do it all! I was SOAKED with sweat and felt like a toal bad ass! haha. When I got home I decided to look up the details just to check it out, and it said the day to register was TODAY! I figured it was a sign, so I just did it! So, final point of that long story: I AM RUNNING A 10K ON SATURDAY!

please anyone with any tips/advice/anything useful, please hit me up!

The race is called "Chasing Snakes" and St. John's Episcopal Church is donating all of the proceeds from the race to Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), a network of churches and community agencies in the Johnson City area who coordinate to provide support for homeless families. The map of the race looks really cool. You can look at it here. I am so excited because this is somthing that I have always wanted to do, and it will be a huge accomplishment when I do finish it. WISH ME LUCK GUYS!

For lunch today I fixed up a quick wrap:

001

I decided to be experimental today and slice up some cucumber to throw in there as well. I didnt think it would make that much of difference, but let me tell you...it MADE the wrap! It was so good with the cucumber added in.

My roommate had bought some pudding cups and I just couldnt help but have one for dessert, with a little whipped cream on top :)

004

I plan on running the 6 miles on the treadmill everyday up until then, and I'm gonna drive through the trail tomorrow, to see how it is. Im hoping I can make it a little faster tomorrow. Ill keep you guys updated! Now, I hear my rommate laughing hysterically at The Office, so I think I'm gonna go join her! haha.

Hope everyone had a great day! Lots of Love <3 Ems.

Way to kick booty on your run today! That's awesome, Em! My advice would be to just take it as slow as you need to on race day and enjoy yourself. Also, I might take a rest day and do some lighter runs to prep for the race on Saturday. It looks like a great cause!

Love the wrap as always, and I just put cukes on my grocery list! :-)

Enjoy the office!

I think doing a 10k makes you a real runner - it's so exciting, and you'll be great!!

If you're going to listen to music, I recommend something very slow for the first few songs. It'll really help the rest of the run if you can start out slow. Don't be worried about being t the back of the pack - you can always speed up for the second half and finish strong, passing everyone that's burnt out at the end!

good for you, girl! i REALLY want to run a few marathons...but i need to pick up on my distance running quitw a bit first :) im glad that you're pushing yourself, especially for a good cause. its always so rewarding to accomplish something that you dont think you can do.

if you get a chance before you run the marathon, watch sisterhood of the traveling pants. you dont have to watch all of it..just the part where bridget and eric just got done running 7 miles and they're talking about how much they both love running. i loooove that part, and i always try to think about what they say when im trying to push myself further :) im sure you will do fantastic!!

Good for you for going that far on the treadmill! I always find that running those kind of distances is easier outside than on the treadmill, so you may be surprised by how well you do on Saturday.

Good luck!

Woo. Congrats on signing up for the race. I may not always practice what I preach, but I still know that if somethings on your mind to do, you should do it, rather than regret missing the chance later. Good luck on Saturday!
