Livin' the Life...

Of an Elementary School Art Teacher, that is. In bed by 10, up by 530, packed lunches, rowdy kids, hands blue from markers...and funny thing is...I'm kinda liking it. Alot.

Not to say it hasn't been rough, but a good kind of rough...ya know? The kind of days where you come home feeling like you have been hit by a train, but somehow in a good way. A way that you know you put your time in today and you DID something worth doing. Because easy things aren't even worth it, its the hard things that make you stronger and make you who you are.

I have to admit, I was getting discouraged with the job search and losing touch with the part of me that really wanted to be a teacher in the first place. I was starting to question if it was even something that I wanted to do with my life. But now I see that I was only questioning it because it was hard, not because it wasn't what I wanted. Now I want it more than ever. I LOVE being a teacher, I LOVE the kids, I LOVE the school. It fits. Its me. I can't wait to have my own classroom.

So I know that I have missed a couple of days of blogging, but that is because I have been dead tired for the past three days. With being sick and still working every morning, I pretty much come home and crash! BUT I did take pictures of what its like to eat breakfast and lunch as a "teach".

Breakfast #1:

fooodzz 008

Banana Pancake Oats...eaten atop my flannel pj's while sitting on my bed reading blogs on the laptop.

Close-Up/Break-Down:

fooodzz 009

  • 1/2 Cup Oats
  • 1/2 Cup of Skim Milk
  • LOADS of Cinnamon
  • 1/2 Banana
  • Tbsp. Maple Syrup
  • Kashi Flax Cereal

Lunch Day #1

lunch

Turkey Sandwich on Wheat eaten atop my desk, with my caffeine fix (gotta have it), a note that says "your the best", and a grade book to the right.

Breakfast Day #2:

fooodzz 007

Apple Cinnamon Oats eaten atop my leopard print throw. Includes:

  • Chopped Apple
  • 1/2 Cup Oats
  • 1/2 Cup Skim Milk
  • LOADS of Cinnamon
  • Kashi Flax Cereal

Lunch Day #2:

school lunch

Hummus and Spinach Sandwich, Pretzels, and an Apple (oh the irony)...eaten atop my desk with all kinds of good teacher-y stuff up there!!

So there you have two breakfasts and lunches in the life of a teacher. Pretty exciting right?...ummm...

Also, like I said before, me being sick gave me an excuse to relax and rest a little. And also to catch up on my cinema. I watched Twilight...which was good, but nothing GREAT. Sorry guys, I know a lot of you are big fans. Then I watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Let me just tell you, if you have not seen this movie...GO NOW! It was AMAZING. I seriously loved every minute of it. I laughed, I cried...it was great. There was one quote that I loved in the movie and when I was at school I looked up the exact wording because I could not get it out of my head.

I jotted it down, and when I was bored during my "planning" period I made it all pretty.

quote

"You can be mad as hell at the way things went. You could swear, curse the fates...but when it comes to an end, you have to let it go."

This just hit so close to home for me, because I have a really hard time letting things go. Especially things that did not turn out the way that I had wanted them to. Sure I could be angry at how things turned out. But when its over its over, and keeping those angry feelings inside only make it worse and won't turn back time. When things end you just have to let them end and learn for next time. I think the practically reminds me of relationships that I have had in the past.

Now, I am off the enjoy the weekend!!!....uhhh...tomorrow, right now I'm ready for SLEEP!

Hope everyone has a fun and exciting weekend.

Lots of Love, <3 Ems

love that movie, love that quote. looks like you have been having fun with the teaching gig! my friend recently became a 5th grade teacher and she comes home with the most fabulous stories. i once wanted to be a school teacher and i actually was pursuing it a couple years ago until i found out my degree-less salary now is more than what teachers make in utah. ugh.. lame.

hope you get some rest and have a great weekend em! xo

I freakin loved that movie. I sobbed and sobbed all over my boyfriend's shoulder in the theater. It was amazing; I didn't want it to end! (obviously wished it could've ended happier, of course).

Glad the work is going well and you've found a true passion in teaching :)

That's a great quote! I still haven't seen the movie, but I will add it for sure to my Netflix list. ;)

It's fantastic that you're loving teaching. I bet it feels amazing to love what you do so much. Very cool!

Hey girl! I am so happy for you - you seem to LOVE your job, and these days that's definitely something that really matters. So many people out there are so unhappy with their lives JUST because of their job. It's really upsetting! I love your breakfasts too, what an amazing start to an even more amazing day!

Have a great evening, and enjoy getting some sleep tonight! I feel like a granny sometimes when I'm in bed early, but ya know what, my body needs it those nights!

Love,
Meg

I'm glad that you're liking teaching. It's nice to find something that challenges you that you ALSO enjoy.

I didn't think "Twilight" was very good too. We can be the pariahs of the blog world.

Ssh, don't tell anyone but I didn't like twilight either :p I think I am a little older than their target audience though! Seriously, teeerrible acting, how monotonous and emotionless can one girl be?! I am glad you are enjoying your job, despite not being very well at the moment. I hope you feel better soon <3

Awww, glad you're loving being a teacher! Sometimes we need those good reminders that we do love what we've chosen as a career. I definitely fall out of love with nutrition sometimes, and I have to remind myself that it's worth it.

Love the quote and artsyness...you're super creative!

Hope you're feeling better!

Love that quote! Going to note that one down...

Glad you are feeling better and enjoying being back in the classrom- agree 100% that the things worth doing ARE hard but oh-so-rewarding.

Have a great weekend!

Hey Em! nice to hear from you again :-)
wow...being an elementary school teacher...really admire you for that. I'm the most impatient person in the world, so not so good with kids, so anybody who is able to and actually WILLINg to hang out with kids and teach them and love them...that's really admirable to me. I'm so glad you found something so meaningful and productive and enjoyable for you!

I love those PJs... the ones I have on now are pretty similar, just blue!

It's great that you've found something that you love to do...
I wish I could be the same (re: teaching), because in theory I do love it, but that would be a disaster for all involved. ;)

And I totally agree with you on Twilight! (I wasn't even going too watch it at all, but when you're on a plane for twelve hours and have nothing else to do...)

I am a new reader (just found your site today) and as a kindergarten teacher your comment about being hit by a train but it being okay definitely hit home. I've done it for 3 years now and there are definitely days where the "good" part isn't there- but in the end we are doing something worthwhile with our days, which is a lot more than most people can say :)

Love that quote, I've yet to see the movie but I heard it's great! SO HAPPY that you are loving being a teacher and haven't lost sight of your passion! I am sure you are really great at what you do! As discouraging as the job search is, I KNOW that you will eventually find a position that is perfect for you!

GIRL give your body a break! Skipping one workout won't do a darn thing except give your body a chance to rest and recover from yucky strep! <3

Ahhh baby girl! I wish you were my teacher! Those damn lucky kids!!!

My mommy bought that movie the other day..so now i must watch it because you told me too!

That quote sounds amazing and really hits home. the reality is..we DO eventually let everything go...WAYYY after the fact. we just need to let it go when it happens. no regrets.

LOVE YOU!
